June Newsletter

Where has the time gone!!!

It has been an absolute pleasure teaching your children this year in Grade 1/2. I can't believe how much they have progressed and grown over the school year. I hope you all have an amazing summer. Relax, spend time outside together and stay cool!

In language, we have finished writing our narrative stories (including characters, setting, problem, solution, beginning, middle and end) and revisited making predictions when reading stories. We are going to learn about inferences and persuasive writing in the month of June. Over the summer, please continue to practice reading with your child every night. It is so important they keep up the amazing work they have achieved all year. A great writing activity is to keep a journal and write about their day each night or every second night. This will help them continue to practice writing word wall words and sounding out unfamiliar words.

In math, we just finished 3D shapes and graphing. We are almost done measurement and will be moving onto probability and multiplication/division. Please continue counting forward and backwards with your children during the summer. It is important to practice skip counting and basic addition/subtraction facts as well.

In science, we are learning about 'Needs and Characteristics of Living Things' (Grade 1) and 'Growth and Changes in Animals' (Grade 2). We will be creating a poster of an animal, writing about it and presenting it! Don't forget to follow my twitter to see all their great work!
